Description

"A Beachcomber's Journal" is a photographic guide to a large collection of items, most of which have been found around the coastline in Monifieth, Angus, Scotland. It explores the history and origins of these finds as well as highlighting the environmental impact of marine pollution. It also provides a window into the past 100 years or so of what we ate and drank and reflects upon the changing tastes throughout the decades. The finds are from 2018 through to early 2022 and are grouped into types.

It covers the effects on the marine environment in particular of the Covid 19 Pandemic from lockdown in early 2020 when the world became a much quieter place through to 2022 when freedoms were gradually restored and life began to be more "normal ". Once the most severe travel restrictions were lifted, there was a huge influx of visitors to what had previously been quiet beaches and a noticeable effect on the environment.

This book raises awareness of what history literally lies beneath our feet as well as appreciating the natural beauty to be found on our beaches. We can all play our part in helping to protect the environment, both for marine life and for future generations.
