About the Author


The Spanish chef Martín Berasategui, who holds the most Michelinstars in Spain, was born in San Sebastian, a coastal city located inthe Basque Country in northern Spain, in 1960. He can closely linkhis training as a cook, as well as a great part of his life, to BodegónAlejandro, a popular restaurant situated in the old town of SanSebastian that was run by his parents and his aunt, and for whichhe was awarded his first Michelin star.

“I was born in 1960 at 4 General Echagüe Street, between a fishingport and a market known as La Brecha. As a boy, I saw the fish fromthe Igueldo and Ayete districts arrive on carts pulled by mules. Eggs,milk, mushrooms, and vegetables were sold at the door. My wholechildhood revolved around that market.”
