Author Talk - Allie Larkin - Swimming for Sunlight - June 20

Swimming For Sunlight by Allie Larkin

Lost and uprooted, Katie brings her faithful, but nervous service dog, Barkimedes, home to Florida to rebuild her life after a divorce. But when grandmother Nan shows Katie photos of her dancing underwater as a mermaid performer in a roadside attraction show, (based on the real Weeki Wacheei mermaids) Katie turns her attention to reuniting the mermaids and producing a reunion show. When an old love reenters her life, Katie struggles to balance her hopes with her anxieties and realizes how much Barkimedes’ fears are connected to her own. In addition to discussing Swimming For Sunlight, Ms. Larkin will share her experiences as a writer, focusing on the lessons she’s learned in achieving a successful writing career.

Emotional and heartwarming, Larkin's touching story is complete with romance, nostalgia and genuine friendship.- Publishers Weekly
