About the Author


Paul Marcus is the Haynes Professor of Law at the College of William & Mary School of Law in Williamsburg, Virginia. He is an expert on criminal procedure and criminal justice and the author of numerous books and dozens of articles on the subject. Among many other books, he has authored, or co-authored, The Right of the Accused Under the Sixth Amendment, The Entrapment Defense, and The Prosecution and Defense of Criminal Conspiracy Cases. He is a member of the American Bar Association's Committees on the Rules of Criminal Procedure, Evidence, and International Criminal Law. Melanie D. Wilson is Dean and Lindsay Young Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Tennessee College of Law in Knoxville, Tennessee. In addition to her leadership duties, she writes about the Fourth and Sixth Amendments and about issues of prosecutorial ethics. She has published multiple books and scholarly articles on these subjects. She also teaches an upper-level course in criminal procedure. Wilson earned her J.D. and A.B.J. from the University of Georgia, magna cum laude. After graduation, she served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Richard Freeman, United States District Court Judge for the Northern District of Georgia, before practicing law in Georgia for another twelve years. During this period, she spent six years as an assistant United States attorney, first in the Middle District of Georgia and later in the Northern District of Georgia. Jack B. Zimmermann is a partner in the Houston law firm, Zimmermann Lavine & Zimmermann, P.C., representing clients in criminal cases at trial and on appeal in state, federal, and military courts worldwide, including several high-profile cases. He is Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and Board Certified as a Criminal Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Mr. Zimmermann graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and became a U.S. Marine Corps artillery officer, serving two tours in Vietnam before attending the University of Texas School of Law. Once certified as a judge advocate, Zimmermann was an active duty defense lawyer, prosecutor, and trial judge. After transferring to the Marine Corps Reserve, he practiced law with "Racehorse" Haynes and then opened his own practice in 1984.
