In his capacity as a touring bassist, Jimi Calhoun witnessed thousands upon thousands of people lose themselves in dance. Suddenly, ethnic, racial, and religious differences disappear. Borders, on the other hand, divide religious communities, races, and nations. Human conflict is perpetuated by these boundaries. Jimi Calhoun is an author, minister, and social ethicist. He is a pastor at Bridging Austin, a Reconciling Community. He is the author of A Story of Rhythm and Grace (2018), The Art of God (2015), The Sounds of Love and Grace (2020), and Funknology (2021). He gained international recognition as bassist for Creation, Rare Earth, Dr. John, The Buddy Miles Regiment, and Funkadelic. Calhoun presently sits on the boards of three nonprofits.
