Why does someone, instead of fleeing from the fire, which would be natural, run to meet it?

The young Sofia, with a remarkable mathematical intelligence, belonging to the bourgeoisie of Puerto Rico, lives in a beautiful blue mansion and is the granddaughter of a very powerful man. However, it's all a fa ade.
