Description

There was a letter written by a Messianic Jew and sent to the Hebrews. The epistle was composed during the 1st century of the Common Era and became the 19th book of the New Testament. It was addressed to a Christian community whose faith was faltering because of carnal rabbinic influences. To fortify Christian beliefs, the author describes the perfect priesthood of the Hebrew Messiah, who, unlike the Jewish high priest, offered one sacrifice as God's own Son, thereby redeeming all of humankind once and for all. The office of the Jewish high priest, by contrast, was filled by a temporary appointee whose imperfect sacrifice had to be repeated over and over. The ancient and Spirit-filled author concludes that Christianity is not only the logical progression of Biblical Judaism, but superior to rabbinic Judaism. The Christians are then warned against apostasy and the fearful prospect of judgment that awaits those who have trodden under foot the Son of God. They are urged to persevere in their faith following the heroic example of others well known to them. What especially made this literary work stand out among the other evangelistic books is its emphasis on the Anointed One's priestly mediation, its statements on faith and the teaching of Moses. What is more, there are more Old Testament citations in this letter delivered by a mysterious Israeli than in any other New Testament book - and those citations are drawn mainly from the teaching of Moses and the scroll called Psalms. And this modern expression of the letter is filled with images which emotionally guide the reader through each of the letter's deep sections. (Concerning the images, the ebook is in color, but for now the paperback is in black and white.)
